01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

At Torinoki Coffee, part of the pleasure is choosing a drink to go with your pudding. Visitors have praised its smooth texture and just-right firmness; others have remarked that it is not too sweet, with a pleasantly bitter caramel. One diner paired the rich caramel pudding with a clean-tasting drink—a natural choice when you fancy something sweet alongside your coffee.

The coffee menu includes a medium-dark blend based on Kenyan beans, with Guatemalan and Mandheling coffees added. The menu describes it as having clean bitterness and fruity notes. For a deeper roast, try the shop’s darkest-roasted coffee, Mandheling: a rich, sweet medium-dark roast with a full body, suited to sipping slowly and savouring the coffee itself. If you would prefer something other than coffee, there is homemade lemonade made with green lemon, honey and unrefined cane sugar. Described as gently sweet with a hint of bitterness, a cup at 600 yen is another option to pair with pudding.

Carrot cake is also on the menu. This small café in Kyoto’s Gosho Minami is a welcoming place to take a break over coffee and dessert; one visitor mentioned spending time reading a book inside.
